Desalination-BB

Introduction

A water transfer project to the central Iranian plateau has been developed by the Iranian government. The program is to bring water from the Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf after desalination to 7 to 16 Iranian provinces.

Desalination and transferring from Oman sea to the center of Iran is one of the largest projects:

Projects

Line 1 – Bandar abbas to Gol-Gohar (300 Km) to Sarcheshmeh (150 Km) to Ardakan (370 Km): 150 Million m3 per year (about the storage capacity of Soleiman Tangeh Dam) – (2)

Line-2: Bandar-Abbas to Yazd: 200 Million m3 per Year (Amir Kabir Dam)

Line-3: Makran coast to Isfahan: 600 Million m3 per year

Line-4: Chabahar to Zabol and then Sangan: it is called IMWASCO or East water pipe-line Project

It will take drinking water to Sistan and Baluchistan cities water network by 2024. Its current budget is as of 2021 around $285 billion.[3] Around 3700 kilometer pipe has been laid for the program. There are three phases for the program, phase 4 has been added. 190 corporations are share holders. Phase 1 has been put operational.

The WASCO Persian Gulf Water supply and transfer corporation has been in charge of the project except Line-4. Water pipes network are steel pipes. (1)

Line-5: Khalij Fars to Fars Province – 95 Million m3 Phase one will reach to 210 Million m3 after implementation of Second Phase – the cost estimated to be 2$ per m3 at destination.

The Cost

  • The Capex Transmission – 1.3 – 1.8 $ / m3
  • The Opex Transmission – 1.5 – 3 $ / m3
  • The Desalination Cost – 0.8 – 1.5 $ / m3
  • The cost will be 3.6 – 6.3 $ / m3
